About this exam family
The ABFAS qualification pathway includes separate Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot/Ankle (RRA) Surgery didactic examinations, plus a NEW computer-based patient simulation (CBPS) examination for each area. The adaptive didactic examinations ask you to interpret findings and select sound clinical or surgical decisions. In CBPS, you gather case-relevant evidence, establish a diagnosis, choose treatment and respond to developments in the case. Foot and RRA differ most clearly in the procedures they assess: Foot didactic intraoperative questions exclude RRA procedures, while RRA covers reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery. Work through the concepts below by connecting examination findings, imaging, anatomy, operative mechanics and complications. The cases illustrate clinical reasoning; they are not a single combined ABFAS examination.
